|
The Zanar'ri have a highly militant society. Although they are warriors by nature, they are not savage or unsophisticated. Their society is organized into hundreds of clans. Before they joined the Imperium, these clans constantly fought for dominance. This constant fighting has caused their warriors to attain a prowess second to none. The Zanar'ri place great value on honor and tradition. Although they have been members of the Imperium, they still maintain their old fleet of starships. They constantly upgrade them with new technologies. The primary function of these ships is to protect the Zanara system. |

In the beginning, two sentient races evolved on the world of Zanar Primus, the Jotaeri and the Arnari. Zanar was an ancient prophet who lead a large group of Arnari, consisting of nearly one hundred thousand people, from bondage. They had been held in slavery for thousands of years by the Jotaeri. It is said that Zanar lead his people into the vast desert and trained them to be fierce warriors so that they could overthrow the Jotaeri and liberate their people. When they were ready, Zanar declared a holy war against the Jotaeri. The Jotaeri armies could not stand against the bloody onslaught that fell upon them. After their armies had been crushed, the Jotaeri leaders offered to surrender. Do to their intense hatred, the Arnari warriors refused to accept and proceeded to systematically exterminate every Jotaeri in existence. A majority of the Arnari populace would rather have subjected the Jotaeri to milinnea of bondage than kill them all outright. It is unclear whether or not Zanar approved of this genocide. Because they were so grateful to Zanar, the Arnari almost unanimously decided to exchange their name to Zanar'ri, which means "people of Zanar". They constructed many statues and shrines to him and elevated him to the status of near-godhood. Contemporary Zanar'ri religion is based upon combat readiness and maintaining tradition. As they felt abandonned during their years of servitude, the Zanar'ri do not actually worship any gods, but instead maintain religion through adherence to tradition and honorable combat. Today, most Zanar'ri regret the actions of their ancestors and therefore try to make up for it by acting completely honorable and punishing all forms of dishonor. |
