Exobiology Report: Elayan

The Elayans are an amphibious race, equally at home on land or in the water. They have adaptive gills that allow them to filter oxygen out of almost any atmosphere, or out of the water. They require moist environments and cannot live on arid worlds. Their society is based on a tribal structure similar to that of the Native Americans of Earth. The land (and the water) is owned communally instead of individually, which has caused them to be more protective of it. This respect caused them to delay industrial growth until they discovered clean power sources, such as hydroelectric dams and solar power cells. This caused them to fall behind other races technologically. When they joined the Imperium, they had only had space flight for little over one hundred years.

 Primary Religions:

The Elayans belive in the religion of Leyswanna. It is a polytheistic religion and is based on nature. All nature is sacred and must be protected from harm. Leyswanna is an oral religion, passed down from one generation to the next through many vocal stories. It has no holy writings to speak of. This religion is similar to that of the Native Americans of Earth.

 Homeworld:

The Elayan homeworld of Elaysia is a large world that is covered by extensive cypress swamps and reed marshes. It is the second planet of the Yalsi system.
