Fighter

Fighters are used to protect planets and to attack races that rely heavily on seeking weapons.

Escort

The small number of military Escorts hold medical bays. Most escort sized ships are civilian owned ships. They serve as yachts for the wealthy.

Frigate

Military frigates are used for training missions by the Imperial Navy. Since frigates are the largest ship size that can be owned by private individuals, many merchants use the frigate hull for their trade ships.

Destroyer

Destroyers are built in emergencies to plug gaps in defensive lines. They are also sometimes built as scout ships.

Light Cruiser

Light cruisers are the mainstay of fleets in Imperial territories with low production capabilities. They are the first ships built in newly acquired territories to fight of enemy attacks. Light cruisers are also used as boarding ships.

Cruiser

The cruiser hull is not very widely used as an assault vessel because it is less efficient than the battle cruiser. The cruisers that are built are usually used to defeat pirates, which generally prefer to use light cruisers.

Battle Cruiser

The battle cruiser is the mainstay of Imperial fleets in most areas of the Imperium because it is the most powerful type of fast ship. They serve many roles, ranging from attack to defense to patrol.

Battleship

Battleships are used to support battle cruisers in large ship battles. They are also used to protect warp points.

Dreadnought

Dreadnoughts are generally used for defense and for assaulting heavily defended planets and warp points.

Baseship

Due to there extremely high cost, baseships are used mostly to protect vital planets and to coordinate massive fleets.

Space Station

Space stations are used as remote outposts that can keep an eye on enemy fleet movements.

Battle Station

Battle stations are used for two roles. The first is to provide production for planets in under-developed areas. The second role is to defend planets that are in immediate danger of enemy attack.

Starbase

The ultimate in base construction, starbases are used like base stations, except in more developed areas. They are also used to protect vital warp points from enemy usage or from warp-point destroying modules.
